Attending a retreat is one of the rare opportunities in an individual’s life where they can completely remove themselves from their daily reality to immerse themselves in activities designed to improve their well-being. Back in 2019, I attended a yoga retreat in Mexico where I had the fortune of spending an entire week engaging in mindful movement, meditation and trust building exercises in an ideal tropical setting with a group of like minded yogis. The experience was truly healing, and the best part was that everything was organized and facilitated by professionals—all I had to do was pay a fee and show up with and open heart and open mind.
Retreats, whether designed for yoga, couples, meditation, reflection and inner-work, or simply rest and relaxation, are more popular now than ever. But what about the well-being of our ever faithful canine companions? One might scoff at such a notion, as after all, man’s best friend seem to naturally live lives of perpetual bliss, with happiness being merely a chew toy or back scratch away. However, without the means for intelligible communication, how can dog owners truly know if their beloved pooches wouldn’t enjoy a retreat custom made for their own particular desires?
